Gustav matriculated from Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch and started studying at Stellenbosch University, after his two years national conscription. He completed his B.Comm (Hons), specializing in investments, financial management and property investment and valuation. In 1997 he became a Certified Financial Planner ®, the international professional qualification in financial advisory.

After 27 months in the corporate environment, he started Aurum in November 1990.

​

He is happily married to Santie and they have 3 children: Gustav (Jnr), Saretha and Jacques.

​

His hobbies include playing golf, watching various sports, collecting art (novice) and travelling. His aim is to see at least one new country per annum.
